Training Camp is the annual skill-sharing and general fun time of ASEN. It happens every January immediately before or after Invasion Day (26th) in Canberra - timed to enable ASEN crew to attend the Corroboree for sovereignty at the Tent Embassy in front of Old Parliament House. 

The first training camp happened in 2006 - around the same time that ASEN became an official entity and had our own convener (previously the NUS Enviro Officer acted as a convener see the wiki for more info). The week has varied each year depending on what the organisers and the network think are important to do at the time - it's usually between 4 to 6 days long. 

In 2006 there were heaps of skills workshops, a 24 hr role play and many connections made between students from all parts of the country. The Change Agency facilitated the role play and other bits, Tash Verco was also there doing some facilitation as well as rad ASEN mob. 

It was an Wangaratta Lodge in the Hunter Valley. 

The following year 2007, saw training camp happen in a more decentralised way with everyone billeted out to Canberra homes and converging at the ANU for the days workshops and planning. The focus was on skills workshops. 

In 2008 an Educate the Educators stream happened where 20 ASEN people got the skills and knowledge in how to plan, run and organise workshops. It was a two day intensive (with a month of lead up) facilitated by the Change Agency, with support for when we facilitated workshops over the next two days for the other 50 people there who were doing the intro to organising workshops. 2009 saw a shift to integrating campaign planning into the 5 days, with campaign sessions happening throughout the week - Climate Justice, and Anti-nuclear, longer skills workshops(3 hrs) and three ASEN specific content sessions (Communication, Process & Participation, Fundraising & Grants). Then following Invasion Day, an educate the educator two-day workshop for those keen.

In 2010 we had a strong focus on campaign stream sessions; Climate Justice, Anti-Nuclear & Food Co-ops with three 2-hr sessions for each stream that was held simultaneously. The Change Agency facilitated the Climate Justice stream and a few other workshops like Advanced Facilitation & Strategic Questioning. It went for 5 days.
